Shanghai looking for second Pudong Hengsha Island or building deepwater port

Shanghai’s land development has met the “ceiling”. Can Shanghai “grow up” in the future? The research group of “new space and deep water new port for Shanghai urban development in 2040″ announced the phased research results yesterday. Bao Qifan, President of the international shipping and Logistics Research Institute of the University, introduced the latest progress in the development of Hengsha Island: Hengsha Island facing the East China Sea will be the best choice for the construction of the second “Pudong”. If Shanghai deepwater new port is built in Hengsha, Shanghai port will have more development space.

At the seminar on that day, seven academicians and experts of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences discussed the hot topics of Shanghai planning revision. As the sponsor of the project, academician Chen Jiyu of East China Normal University and famous shipping expert Bao Qifan said that the starting point of the project is to find new space for Shanghai’s development. Shanghai is the leader of the Yangtze River economic belt. Hengsha Island is like the “dragon’s tongue”. Once it is extended to build a new deepwater port, it can better play the role of Shanghai as the “leader”. This conclusion has also been recognized by many academicians and experts.
